ESG at Abano 

Abano Healthcare is committed to making a difference to the environment and the communities it services. 

2024 is an exciting year for Abano Healthcare with the launch of its first ESG Committee. The ESG Committee is a forum where ESG initiatives within the Abano Healthcare network can be explored and promoted.

Some of the recent ESG initiatives within the Abano Healthcare Group have included:

• Dr Fred Calavassy (Abano's Chief Clinical Officer) volunteering his dental services to communities in need in Papua New Guinea through YWAM (Youth With A Mission).
• In addition to the work done with YWAM, various clinicians and employees within the Abano Healthcare network undertake volunteer work and we are exploring ways to do this across the network.
• Abano Healthcare's partnership with Abilities in NZ which has helped to recycle ~672 tonnes of end-of-life IT equipment and led to a significant reduction of CO2 emissions, contributing to a more sustainable environment.
• The assessment by Abano of its Scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions to assist in identifying measures to reduce Abano's impact on the environment.
• Seeking sustainable procurement opportunities such as a new eco-friendly range toothbrush range which has been added to our procurement catalogue; new suction products that reduce the environmental impact; reduction in single-use products and working with suppliers on packaging with a lower environmental impact.
• Abano Healthcare's recent survey of its major suppliers to understand and address any risks of modern slavery in its supply chains.
• Abano Healthcare's investment in enhancing the security of patient data held by Abano Healthcare to reduce the risk of this sensitive information being compromised by attackers.
