Senior Payroll Officer – 12 Month Fixed Term Contract
Are you an experienced payroll professional who thrives in a fast-paced, high-volume environment? We’re looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Senior Payroll Officer to join our team on a 12-month fixed term contract, supporting the accurate and efficient delivery of payroll for 1000+ employees.
This is a fantastic opportunity to step into a senior role where you’ll play a key part in payroll processing, compliance, and continuous improvement.
As a Senior Payroll Officer, you’ll be responsible for supporting end-to-end payroll operations across fortnightly, monthly, and off-cycle pay runs. You’ll work closely with the Payroll Manager and key stakeholders to ensure accuracy, compliance, and a seamless payroll experience for employees.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Processing
- End-to-end payroll for 1000+ employees across multiple pay cycles
- Maintain accurate payroll data and employee records
- Ensure correct system set-up (Dayforce preferred)
- Process super, PAYG, tax, STP compliance, and payroll adjustments (ETPs, allowances, leave, etc.)
- Manage Child Support, Paid Parental Leave, and novated leasing
Compliance & Governance
- Ensure compliance with Fair Work Act, NES, Awards, and legislation
- Maintain audit trails and support audits
- Assist with reporting (e.g. WGEA) and process improvements
Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as escalation point for payroll queries
- Partner with People & Culture, Finance, and leaders
- Support onboarding/offboarding and follow up on payroll inputs
Minimum 3 years’ payroll experience, including at least 1 year in a senior or lead capacity
Strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation (Superannuation, Tax, LSL, Terminations)
Solid experience interpreting Modern Awards
Experience in high-volume payroll environments
Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
Experience with payroll systems (Dayforce preferred, but not essential)
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
Excellent communication skills with a customer-focused mindset
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or a related discipline (preferred)
- Payroll certification or membership (e.g. APA or TAPS) is advantageous
